Plan de Paris. Commencé l'année 1734

Description

The sheet shown here shows l’Île de la Cité with the Cathedral of Notre Dame top left. The Quai de l’Horloge, fronting the river, was at this time the centre of the flourishing French cartographic trade, whereas the publishers and printers of the capital were restricted by a law of 1618 to the University area centre on the Sorbonne, seen top centre.
