Angela Carter's archive contains vast numbers of postcards sent from around the world between herself and friends and family. This selection were sent throughout the 1980s to Carter's friend, the theatre critic Susannah Clapp.

Clapp, who published her collection of postcards in the 2012 book A Card from Angela Carter, writes, 'These cards told more than one story. The cartoons and paintings and photographs Angela chose sometimes contradicted, at other times re-emphasised her words on the other side. Some of the images glance at a conversation we had been having, or at an episode in Angela’s life. Sometimes,of course, the picture hints at nothing.'
