News coverage in Spare Rib provided a valuable insight into international events and politics from a feminist perspective. By including stories of women around the world who were experiencing violence or oppression and those who were fighting for change, the magazine was an important forum for raising awareness of such issues in a manner which contrasted significantly with mainstream coverage.
