This plate published in Richard Phillips' Modern London shows the west front of St. Paul’s cathedral with the dome beyond. The streets of Ludgate Hill and Paternoster Row are crowded with lively figures and carriages. Of particular note is the post coach to the right, between the covered wagons, the roof crowded with passengers and the guard blowing his horn, presumably to clear the way. The rather vague outline of the spire of Saint Vedast-alias-Foster rises behind the houses beyond.
