This is a summary of the report to Parliament describing the state of health care and adult social care services in England in 2010/11. It is the first state of care report in which information from the new registration and regulation system under the Health and Social Care Act 2008 is published. All registered health care and adult social care providers must now meet one set of standards – called the essential standards of quality and safety. These essential standards are described in terms of the outcomes that people using the service can expect to experience. The report has four main sections dealing with: the shape of care provision; access to care and services; choice and control; and quality and safety
