The person responsible for creating our DOIs has left the organisation. How do I update details on our Fabrica account?

If you need to update the email address associated with your account, you can do it on your own once you log in. You should also reset your password. You can do this from within your account, see How do I reset my password.

How do I reset my password?

You can do this from within your account. Log in to the DataCite Fabrica, click on ‘Sign In’ and then ‘Forgotten Password?’. You will then be prompted to enter your account symbol (beginning ‘BL’). A new password will then be emailed to you so that you will be able to log in and reset your password.

What do I do if I have forgotten my password?

Go to the login page. Underneath the log-in form is a Forgotten Password link. Enter your account symbol (beginning 'BL.') and click submit. A link to reset the password will be sent to the email address associated with the account. If you do not receive that email within 24 hours, or if you do not have access to the email address that is associated with the account, please email us.

How do I add a web domain to our account?

Please email us if you need to add a new website domain to your Fabrica account.

What happens if we do not want to renew our account?

If at the end of your three-year agreement, or in subsequent years, you decide that you no longer want or need to create DOIs, you will still be responsible for maintaining the DOIs you have already assigned. You will keep your DataCite account to do this, but it will be set to prevent you from assigning new DOIs.

What happens if we give our data to someone else?

A change of responsibility for data was one of the things that DataCite was created for. If your organisation is passing responsibility for data on to another party, we will arrange with you both to transfer over ownership of the DOIs and prefix.

Please note that we can only transfer whole prefix ranges. If you think that you may want to transfer subsets of your DOIs to a third party at a later date, please consider using separate prefixes for those subsets. See Moving between institutions in Non-centralised use of DataCite.

If your organisation is changing name but the DOIs will still be created and/or maintained by you, we may need to update your contract or DataCite account. Please email us to discuss.

Can we have more than one prefix?

Yes. You can have additional prefixes at no extra cost. This allows separation between subsets of content that you are assigning DOIs to. It is ideal if you have subsets of content you think may be transferred to a third-party organisation at a later date, as we can only transfer whole-prefix ranges of DOIs.
