An evening of performance and discussion
The British Library’s India Office Private Papers include fascinating accounts of the lives of passengers and crew on board East India Company ships. Researchers at the University of Southampton have been working with the British Library to explore these unpublished and little-known diaries, which provide great insight into the different experiences of the journey from England to India.
Performers will read extracts to bring to life these various tales, from the horror of sinking ships, to the daydreams of a bored officer and the longings of an angst ridden teenager.
Join us for an evening of history, giving you the opportunity to discuss these stories with a panel including researchers from the University of Southampton and British Library curators.
