Sea songs from the British Library collections
Enjoy raw sea songs and shanties from the treasure chest of the Library’s printed heritage collections, performed by The London Sea Shanty Collective, and have a yarn with experts about fresh interpretations and research.
The event celebrates projects that digitise ballads and playbills in the Library's collections: early English ballads with verse printed in Black Letter; musical scores printed and circulated throughout the 18th century; and eye-catching playbills from the 19th century advertising nautical melodrama in big, bold type.
The event is free but booking is required.
