Explore the weird and wonderful world of animals.

This event takes place in the British Library.

An exciting family event inspired by our latest major exhibition, Animals: Art, Science and Sound. The event celebrates Earth Day and is part of Art Fund’s The Wild Escape, a major creative project inspired by wildlife.

The day will include:

  • Launch of The Wild Escape’s nationwide digital artwork, plus a chance to create and add your own favourite animal to the collective animation.
  • Large interactive robotic creatures outside on the Piazza, created by AirGiants.
  • Tours of the exhibition Animals: Art, Science and Sound, supported by British Sign Language interpretation.
  • Animals encounters with ZooLab, plus eco-sessions exploring ways we can help protect our planet.
  • Live illustration and story creating with author/ zoologist Nicola Davies and illustrator Petr Horáček.
  • Animal themed Family Freestyle dance workshops, with artists from Sadler’s Wells.
  • Minibeast hunting, pond dipping and bird watching at London Wildlife Trust’s Camley Street Natural Park.
  • Storytelling and scavenger hunts at the Story Garden community space.
  • Exploring the surprising ways other species use sound to communicate, with SoundFjord and musician Áine O Dwyer..
  • Pop-up Reading Corner with braille and tactile books and a Sensory Room for some calm time out.

There will also be a special under 5’s sensory play environment inspired by Judith Kerr’s beloved animal stories. Little ones will be able to make, create and listen to stories, as part of HarperCollins Children’s Books yearlong celebration of 100 years since Judith Kerr’s birth.
