This event will bring together some of the leading contemporary academics, writers and translators to talk about writing and creating in this fertile cultural space
Following on from the hugely successful Balkan Day event in June 2014, join for another day of in-depth discussion. This time the focus will be on the south-eastern countries of the region, reaching to the very shores of Turkey, whose influence on this history of these lands has been profound. Built upon a synthesis of influences and histories, the Balkans is home to a great number of fascinating stories and traditions, many of which remain untold in English. Featuring: Kapka Kassabova, Robert Elsie, Ioana Parvulescu, Alek Popov, John Hodgson, Christopher Buxton, Stephen Watts and Mevlut Ceylan, the discussion will be followed by a screening of the documentary ‘Balkan Spirit’ followed by a Q&A with the director Hermann Vaske.
