Musician Blick Bassy talks about his latest album 1958
World-renowned Cameroonian singer/songwriter Blick Bassy talks to journalist Andy Morgan about the genesis of his latest album 1958, a defiant tribute to the people who fought and died for the independence of his native country, and questions the bondage of neo-colonialism, the need for heroes, the relevance of history and the search for true identity.
Blick Bassy's career took off internationally in 2015 when the tech giant Apple took a shine to his subtle falsetto voice and deft banjo playing and used a clip from his album Akö in the launch for the iPhone 6.
