A concert celebrating the recent acquisition of the autograph manuscript of Handel’s vocal trio Se tu non lasci amore
Handel composed the vocal trio Se tu non lasci amore during his sojourn in Italy between 1707 and 1710. This was a fertile period in the young composer’s life and was formative in the development of his mature musical style. Hear a short talk about Handel’s Italian period and the newly acquired manuscript, followed by a concert given by the ensemble Sounds Baroque under the direction of Julian Perkins. The music will include a performance of Se tu non lasci amore, placing it in the context of music by other contemporary composers.
This important acquisition reflects the Library's commitment to a great tradition of collecting musical sources to support music research in Britain and internationally. The manuscript has been purchased thanks to the generous support from The Handel Institute, Friends of the National Libraries, Friends of the British Library and the Oliver W Neighbour bequest.
This event is now at 19.30 – 21.00 rather than 19.00 – 20.30 as previously listed.
