Inspired by the British Library’s Food Season, join cheese expert and food journalist Patrick McGuigan on a deep-dive into the wonderful world of cheese.

This course has been postponed from the original date (20 May) due to illness. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

During this one-day course you will explore the social history of cheese and cheese-making, and learn how to assess and taste cheese like a professional.

With special guest and cheesemonger, Rhuaridh Buchanan, you will gain knowledge about storing cheese, pairing it with your favourite foods, and how to share your cheese knowledge through writing via group work, discussion, writing exercises and tastings. You will also gain insights into the world of cheese and food journalism.

This course will include tastings of cheese and alcoholic drinks and, as such, is only open to those over 18. You will be asked to provide identification upon entry. Please email adultlearning@bl.uk if you have any food allergies or intolerances as soon as you have booked your ticket. Please note that some of the cheeses for the tasting are not vegetarian – these will be clearly labelled.

Read the course outline (PDF).

If you have any access requirements, please email adultlearning@bl.uk as soon as you have booked your ticket.
