American writer Torrey Peters, author of the best-selling 2021 novel Detransition, Baby comes to London, for a unique conversation with Shon Faye.

Detransition, Baby is a super sharp, funny but emotional story about three complicated women, transgender and cisgender, whose lives collide after an unexpected pregnancy forces them to confront their deepest desires around gender, motherhood, and sex. It won the 2021 PEN/Hemingway award for debut fiction, was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Awards, a finalist for the Brooklyn Public Library Award, and was longlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction.

Online bookers may buy a copy of Detransition, Baby with a ticket at checkout for £12.99 (with UK postage) and watch the event for free. International postage will be higher. Books will be posted out within 7 days after the event. Please ensure your address is up to date on your British Library account.

Presented in partnership with Gay's the Word bookshop.

Shon Faye was born in Bristol, and is now based in London. After training as a lawyer, she left the law to pursue writing and campaigning, working in the charity sector with Amnesty International and Stonewall. She was an editor-at-large at Dazed, and her writing has been published by the Guardian, the Independent and Vice, among others. Faye recently launched an acclaimed podcast series, Call Me Mother, interviewing trailblazing LGBTQ elders. Her first book, The Transgender Issue, was an instant Sunday Times bestseller and is described by Vogue as 'a moving and impressively comprehensive overview of trans life'.

Torrey Peters lives in Brooklyn and holds an MFA from the University of Iowa and a Masters in Comparative Literature from Dartmouth. In addition to the best-selling 2021 novel Detransition, Baby, she is the author of two novellas, Infect Your Friends and Loved Ones (due to be published in the UK by Serpent's Tail in 2023) and The Masker. Torrey Peters was one of The Observer’s Faces of 2021, and the most picked debut for books of the year roundups 2021. She’s currently developing Detransition, Baby for the screen.
