Celebrate young rebels from children’s literature at this fun-filled family day. Inspired by our exhibition, Marvellous and Mischievous: Literature's Young Rebels, and to mark the launch of our fantastic new website, Discovering Children’s Books, you’ll be able to explore the wonderful worlds and wild adventures of our favourite rule-breakers, through creative activities, immersive storytelling and inspiring encounters.
Hear writer Michael Rosen read his most rebellious stories and poems. Learn to draw your own scary monster with Nadia Shireen, author of Billy and the Beast.
Join a drop-in scribbly sketching session with author and illustrator Viviane Schwarz; and meet compere Ben Shires.
Immerse yourself in our hands-on workshops. Drop in activities take place throughout the day and include:
- Pop Up Papercraft
- Rebel Puppets
- Playful Sculptures
- Collage Animals
Timed sessions include…
- Build a Den at 11.00, 13.00 and 14.30
- Sensory Storytelling for under 3’s at 11.30, 12.30, 13.30 and 14.30
- Drag Queen Story Time at 12.00, 13.00 and 15.00
- Songs and Stories for under 5’s at 12.00, 13.00, 14.00 and 15.00
Investigate our new website to discover over 100 children’s treasures from our collection, from a 2000 year-old homework book to pop-ups, sketchbooks, scribbled manuscripts, comics and fairy tales. Our digital bank of creative activities is designed to inspire the next generation of writers and illustrators! Find our friendly helpers dotted around the building.
End the day by picking up a book in our family reading corner or take time out in our sensory space.
A limited number of tickets to visit the Marvellous and Mischievous: Literature's Young Rebels exhibition will be available on the day.
BSL interpretation is available throughout the day.
