Markus Bidell presents the 2019 Eccles Fulbright Annual Lecture

This event will have live subtitles by Stagetext working with MyClearText.

In delivering the annual Eccles Fulbright lecture, Markus Bidell marks 50 years since the Stonewall Riots. Serious human rights and psychosocial issues remain for LGBTQ+ people even as public policies and opinions are changing. These disparities exist within a historical context that castigates LGBTQ+ individuals as immoral, aberrant, and deviant. Through an exploration of vital history and questions linking LGBTQ+ oppression, activism, and psychosocial disparities, this lecture explores some of the emerging sociopolitical and policy changes impacting the health, human rights, and wellbeing of LGBTQ+ individuals.

Markus Bidell, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Hunter College, City University of New York. In 2014-15 he was the Regents Fulbright Scholar to the UK where he undertook a teaching and research programme focused on LGBT clinical competence.

Sponsored by the Eccles Centre for American Studies at the British Library in collaboration with the US-UK Fulbright Commission
