Frances Wood invites you to explore China’s rich history and heritage via a sequence of illuminating encounters with outstanding works of Chinese literature.

In this illustrated lecture, Frances Wood draws from her new book, Great Books of China, to showcase the chronological and thematic breadth of Chinese literary tradition, ranging from such classics as The Book of Songs and the Confucian Analects, through popular dramas and novels such as The Romance of the Western Chamber and 20th political and biographical works including Quotations from Chairman Mao and little known modern novels.

Frances Wood is a Sinologue and historian of China. She was curator of Chinese collections at the British Library until 2013. Her books include Did Marco Polo go to China? The Silk Road, The First Emperor of China and The Lure of China.
