Join our introduction to Ancient Greek and encounter the language of Classical Greece. We will explore Classical Greek in its cultural context and help you to develop skills in understanding, analysing and reproducing meaning from set texts through accessible exercises, grammatical analysis and close reading.
Over the weekend you will gain detailed knowledge about the journey of the Greek language and its 2,800-year-old history. We will explore Ancient Greek and the insights it provides for English speakers in gaining a better understanding of the English language. Our journey will include the study of pronunciation, grammar, syntax, principles of sentence construction and the reading of selected texts. The course aims to provide students with good knowledge of Classical Greek and principles of sentence construction sufficient to translate simple sentences or short passages of Greek prose into English and simple English phrases and sentences into Greek. The course will also provide a basic vocabulary and aims to help participants with their first contact with Greek.
