We are on ZOOM for October and November but could be back at the British Library in the New Year.

Great ideas can change the world! However, whilst lots of us often spot the potential for a new product or a new piece of technology, the harsh realities of research and development, prototyping, manufacturing and distribution often mean that few of those ideas actually make it to market.

In the ZOOM environment we are looking at innovators who have already brought their products to market or have disclosed their intellectual property. Join us to learn about their journeys, what problems they had to overcome and useful tips about bringing a new product to market.

The Inventors' Club is brought to you by the Business & IP Centre in collaboration with:

  • Bob Lindsey - a Chartered Engineer with a wide experience of marketing and business management, who has spent over twenty years advising entrepreneurs and small businesses on getting their new products to market. He was part of the team which set up the Inventors' Club at Kingston University in 2005, and he regularly runs Innovation Clinics at the British Library.
  • Mark Sheahan - the Founder and Owner of Compgen Ltd and Culgen Ltd and the Chairman at Morgan Goodwin Ltd. Mark has been a valued collaborator of the Business & IP Centre for over 13 years as the British Library's Inventor in Residence, helping over 1,000 aspiring innovators with their inventions.

The club meets regularly on the last Monday of the month. Innovators who would like to present their idea should contact Bob Lindsey on blindsey@thamesproductions.co.uk.

Speakers for 29th November 2021 are:

1. Richard Thorpe

Richard Thorpe, a talented designer and entrepreneur, has presented to us over the years. He produces the best e-bike on the market (https://gocycle.com) and has launched models with his own gearbox recently. I first met Richard nearly 20 years ago when he was building his first prototype using magnesium alloys. He will tell us about the technical and practical challenges of building such acompany.

2. Pete Avery – “from Ideas to Market”

Content strategist & creator Pete Avery (www.wearestride.com) has enabled start-ups, SMEs and big brands to take ideas to market, increase sales & build brand recognition. Pete developed The Guardian’s commercial content hub and has created advertising across most platforms.

Pete will briefly outline where to start, how to plan, create & develop strategies and what simple steps to take. His career is not sector specific so please do participate in the Q&A at the end of the talk, as it is always enlightening to have a dialogue with club members.
