What is Japan thinking now?

What is Japan thinking and who are the writers and artists who best explore the nation’s psyche? Join us for an eclectic mix of talks and events across books, film and visual art. Richard Lloyd Parry, author of the acclaimed Ghosts of the Tsunami, discusses Japan in the wake of tragedy, with a reporter’s eye for detail. Hideo Furukawa, dubbed the ‘heir to Murakami’, and one of Japanese literature’s most exhilarating performers, will read from his latest book, Slow Boat, about the confines of the city and the desire to escape everyday life.

Japan Now looks beyond the clichés to reveal the real country, featuring local writers and international commentators, in exciting conversations across artforms. The event also offers the chance to pick up the latest books by Japanese writers in English translation from a range of publishers.
