Fresh ideas for teaching Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde in context, drawing on the British Library’s rich Discovering Literature website.

Join Professor Emma Major, author and disability advocate Jen Campbell and teacher-author Patrick Cragg for a rich discussion around the themes of doubles, place and identity, Victorian beliefs, and disability representation in Gothic literature.

  • Emma Major will discuss doubles, place and identity.
  • Jen Campbell will discuss disability representation in Gothic literature, how it stems from physiognomy, and how the scientific and spiritual beliefs of the Victorians informed their literature.
  • Patrick Cragg (@GCSE_Macbeth) will share ready-to-teach classroom ideas using rich non-fiction sources from the British Library's Discovering Literature website.

Following the event, delegates will receive a digital resource pack, created by Patrick Cragg, featuring practical teaching ideas for a range of Discovering Literature collection items to strengthen students' understanding of the historical, social and political context of the novella.
