Travel in Walter Raleigh's footsteps

Much of Walter Raleigh’s reputation was forged abroad, through his involvement in Elizabethan attempts to establish plantations in Ireland, establish colonies in Virginia, and in his fateful quest for the fabled city of El Dorado in modern-day Guyana and Venezuela.

Having recently travelled across Guyana in Raleigh’s footsteps, Jerry Brotton offers a new perspective on Raleigh’s colonial adventures, situating him at the heart of a global network stretching from Munster to London’s livery companies to Munster, the Orinoco, and ultimately his execution at the Tower of London in October 1618.
