‘Library music’ is at the heart of some of our most-loved British sounds: the rousing introduction to Grandstand, the theme to Mastermind, the afternoon quirkiness of the Grange Hill opening credits. Made for TV and radio, library music offers glorious, perfect pieces of pop. Often brilliantly creative, and recorded in some of the world’s finest studios it has become increasingly popular slice of musical history.

Join some of library music label KPM’s star composers and their big band for a night of this astonishing music.

Arrive early for a premiere screening of Shawn Lee’s The Library Music Film, a feature length documentary with all the library music luminaries, plus a talk, hosted by Emily Bick (The Wire) with some famous fans and the musicians themselves. Then enjoy the KPM All Star's first live show for six years as they take the roof off with a selection of classics.

With Alan Hawkshaw, of The Mohawks fame, Keith Mansfield, a favourite provider of samples, Brian Bennett, the longest serving stick-man from The Shadows, John Cameron, award winning film composer and Alan Parker, guitarist who taught David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix a few tricks. Not to forget the star of the show, Hawkshaw’s battered Hammond which gave us the greatest organ groove ever written, The Mohawks The Champ.

Plus DJ support from two library music fans in Andy Votel (of Finders Keepers Records) and Jane Weaver.

KPM is the most established name in Library music and has been a division of EMI Music Publishing for well over 50 years. The KPM archive is now resident at the British Library.

Throughout the weekend, there will be the opportunity to see many rare (and exotic!) library album covers in the flesh in an exclusive exhibition hosted by the British Library, which will be presented by Anthology Editions and curated by David Hollander, author of Unusual Sounds: The Hidden History of Library Music (published May 2018 via Anthology Editions). Signed copies of the book will be available to buy.

The KPM All Stars Live! is a standing event.

Presented in association with KPM/EMI Production Music.

Part of A Season of Sound. Supported by Bowers & Wilkins.
