Join Jamaica’s Olive Senior and the UK’s Simon Armitage for an evening of literary excellence and conversation.

This event takes place in the Howard Assembly Room in Leeds.

Celebrate Jamaica’s roots and culture through the lens of poetry, with Jamaica’s Olive Senior and the UK’s Simon Armitage. This evening of conversation between two acclaimed Poets Laureate marks the launch of Out of Many Lit – a five day literature festival organised by Jamaica Society Leeds.

Olive Senior’s first collection of fiction, Summer Lightning and Other Stories, received widespread praise, winning the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize. The Caribbean remains central to her work and she is the prize-winning author of 17 books of fiction, poetry and non-fiction.

Simon Armitage is the recipient of numerous prizes and awards and has published over a dozen poetry collections, two novels and three non-fiction bestsellers.

This event builds on our work with partners and communities in Leeds to develop a growing programme of cultural events and learning activities in the city. Find out more on our dedicated Leeds page.

This event is staged in collaboration with the National Library of Jamaica, in partnership with the Howard Assembly Room and with the support of Leeds City Council. The Jamaica Society Leeds Out of Many festival is made possible by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Arts Council England.
