It’s not just TV sitcoms or blockbuster movies that get great comedy moments; comic novels and short stories also feature hilarious scenes.
Over two intensive sessions with comedy coach, script editor and director Chris Head, you’ll learn the basics of writing comedy scenes for novels and short stories, both fiction and non-fiction.
Alongside texts suggested by the participants, Chris will explore some of the all-time literary comedy classics by PG Wodehouse, Sue Townsend, Helen Fielding and more. You’ll have the chance to put what you’ve learned into practice in your own writing, and receive feedback and guidance on your work from Chris.
Session 1 – Tuesday 20 April
We’ll analyse and discuss how comedy scenes work and the different techniques deployed by writers. You’ll be invited to write your own scenes in the week between sessions and share them with the group at the next session.
Session 2 – Tuesday 27 April 2021
We’ll spend this session sharing your work and getting personalised feedback and guidance from the tutor, Chris.
