An evening with one of the most celebrated Cuban poets writing today
Born in Camagüey, Cuba, in 1984, Legna Rodriguez Iglesias has been writing for as long as she can remember. Her first book was published in 2001, when she was only 16. Since then she has won a number of prestigious national and international prizes; most recently the Premio Paz in 2016 for her collection of poems, Miami Century Fox. As well as poetry, Legna has written short stories, novels, children’s books and theatre.
In collaboration with Poet in the City and the Poetry Translation CentrePoet in the City Producers is a group of talented 16-25 year olds producing live events, discussions and campaigns to ensure young people have a stake in the future of poetry.
The Poetry Translation Centre gives the best contemporary poems from Africa, Asia and Latin America a new life in the English language, working with diaspora communities for whom poetry is of great importance.
Poet in the City brings poetry to people and people to poetry. They help places and people tell their stories, create access to hard ideas, attract radically new audiences, bring about social and behavioural change, and create awe-inspiring large-scale entertainment.
