Did you know the British Library looks after a huge variety of sound recordings? This session lifts the lid on this fascinating part of our collection.
In this mindful and creative workshop, learners’ develop confidence in listening and responding to sounds from a wide range of contexts. Learners will uncover the history of recorded sound, experience how a sound can transform a space, tune into the everyday noises around us and see where close listening can take the imagination. Inspired by these experiences they will create original responses through discussion, drawing, writing, mapping and moving.
Playful and exploratory, Listen Up! supports learner wellbeing, encouraging grounding in the moment as we focus on the sounds we can hear.
We have designed a set of digital materials linked to this session: to find out more and to request these for use in your classroom, visit the Listen Up! digital activities page. To take a deeper dive into sound, see our website Coast, or explore domestic sounds with the website If Homes Had Ears.
