Deepen your knowledge of Old English

Course dates: Saturday 19 – Sunday 20 October 10.30 – 17.00

Read the course outline.

Deepen your knowledge of Old English at this two-day intermediate level masterclass. This course is aimed at people who have already taken our beginner level Old English Masterclass or those with some prior knowledge of the language and its grammar. Explore Old English in its cultural context and develop skills in analysing and drawing meaning from set texts through accessible exercises and close reading. The aim of this masterclass is to immerse participants in the rich literature of the Anglo-Saxons.

Through a combination of tutor-led and group-translation sessions, examine specific texts in detail – starting on day one with prose works and moving on to poetry in day two. There will be some explanation of the grammar on the first day, but our intention is to give participants the opportunity to see the grammar in action through literary texts.
