Stories are universal: they help us to understand ourselves and connect with the world around us. Join us for Once Upon a Time – our latest workshops for Key Stage 1 supporting students to develop skills in speaking and listening, literacy and oracy.
Once Upon a Time: Make a story (60 minutes)
Learners will discover that the world has been telling stories long before there were books. Through a sequence of activities and interventions, students will create their own unique oral story as a group, inspired by locations within the Library and our collection. The session concludes with a shared telling of this new tale in our Learning Centre, where learners will be transported to a storytelling forest.
Once Upon a Time: Tell a story (60 minutes)
Discover some of the techniques storytellers use to bring their tales to life including performance, props and audience participation. Beginning with a whistle-stop tour of the Library, students will uncover inspiration for stories as they explore our building and collection. Through a sequence of activities, students will work together to re-tell a traditional story using a combination of voice, words and movement.
Sessions can be booked as a stand-alone workshop, or combined to make a full day at the Library. If booked on the same day, one session will run before lunch and one after lunch.
