Headshot of Lorraine Russell

Lorraine Russell

Lorraine is a Qualified L3 Personal Trainer and Nutritionist and the founder of NoireFitFest, the UKs first Black wellness and fitness festival.NoireFitFest was set up to provide Black fitness and wellness professionals with a platform of visibility, and inspire health, fitness and wellness goals within the wider Black community.

Lorraine decided to pursue a career in the fitness industry after turning her life around after years of battling with her own weight issues.

Hailing from a very sporty family, Lorraine always had a love of sport, taking up many sports as a child into her teens years, ranging from swimming, judo, to running track. However, like many teenagers, once puberty hit, and being left to her own devices to eat unlimited unhealthy foods during her time in secondary school, Lorraine’s weight began to spiral out of control.

She struggled to lose weight, even though she was still very active in her sporting activities. After a number of years of being dissatisfied with her health and fitness, Lorraine decided to make significant changes to the way she trained and ate.

She began documenting her progress via her social media platforms, gaining attention from followers who asked if she could train them. The requests soon helped her reach two significant decisions in her life. One was to qualify as a personal trainer, the other was to compete in a bodybuilding show.

Now Lorraine uses her knowledge and experience to teach her clients about making fitness a part of their lifestyle.

Our host for the evening is Foluke Akinlose MBE, founder of PRECIOUS.

Foluke set up the PRECIOUS platform in 1999 to champion ambitious women of colour and help build their professional networks and visibility.
