PRECIOUS Nights – Doing Business with Purpose

Our final PRECIOUS Nights as we begin to bring the year to a close is a focus on doing business with purpose.

Leading this special conversation will be our host, entrepreneur and career coach, Arit Eminue who will be chatting to entrepreneur and author, Jessica Huie MBE.

The PRECIOUS Awards was founded in 2007 to celebrate and applaud the professional and entrepreneurial achievements of women of colour in the UK.

PRECIOUS Nights is a monthly event that gives you the opportunity to hear previous winners share the highs, lows and lessons of their business journey, give actionable tips and advice.

Jessica Huie MBE

Jessica Huie MBE, is an entrepreneur and the Author of PURPOSE, the new edition with five new chapters charting her mid pandemic move to the island of Jamaica, is set to be published by Hay House Nov 9th 2021.

Jessica enjoyed a glittering career as a journalist and publicist and has worked with some of the world’s best known stars and business people, including Samuel L. Jackson, Simon Cowell, Kelly Rowland & Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle. She founded and ran influential boutique agency JHPR for ten years.

In 2006 Jessica launched Color Blind Cards, a multi-award winning multicultural greeting card company which drove an early conversation around the importance of ethnic representation in retail and became the first independent brand to secure a high-street presence for black cards in the UK. The brand went on to secure distribution in the US and South Africa.

Jessica grew up in a West London council estate, was expelled from school with four GCSEs aged fifteen and became a mother aged seventeen.

Labelled one of Britain’s Most Inspiring Entrepreneurs by the Evening Standard. In 2014 Jessica was honoured with an MBE for services to entrepreneurship and contribution to diversity and inclusion.

In 2016, when Jessica’s father was diagnosed with terminal cancer, for the first time in her life she stopped doing and became present. Her first book, PURPOSE, and transformation evolved from the profound space between life and death in which she found herself as a carer for her beloved father.

Passionate about challenging the ideologies which we hold around success, Jessica has shared the insights from the awakening from which PURPOSE evolved, everywhere from corporations such as Google, EY, Grant Thornton, Virgin Media and Credit Suisse, to community projects, schools and charities.

In 2017 having recognised a lack of books written by authors of colour in the personal development space, she spearheaded the Diverse Wisdom Initiative with Hay House. The programme is designed to attract and elevate more writers of colour in the holistic health and spirituality space.

Headshot of Grace Francis

Out host for the evening is Grace Francis

Grace is the founder of the award winning DramEd, which brings teachers and performers together to advance learning through Performing Arts amongst young children. Helping to revolutionise the education system through creative play.

Grace has a background as an actress, performing in theatres ranging from the Battersea Arts Centre, The National Theatre to Channel 4 and the BBC. It was a chance experience as an 11-year-old, after a month-long stint at a famous theatre school; which ended prematurely due to a lack of family funds, that became the catalyst to her lifelong passion for making high-quality arts more accessible to children.

An advocate for performers and the benefits of performing arts in education, it was Grace's experience of taking unfulfilling work, in-between acting jobs, that is behind her crafting DramEd to help performers start their own business, so they can prosper with their art.
