Self-guided visits to the British Library are a flexible option enabling teachers to lead a group independently. We provide a printed resource providing key information and activities to do during your visit.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • see the magnificent King’s Library – a 7-storey tower of books collected by George III made of gleaming glass and bronze, and with shelves of leather and vellum bindings
  • explore the Treasures of the British Library gallery which showcases some of the greatest works from our literary, scientific, music, art and sacred texts collections. Discover the stories that have shaped the world from Magna Carta and Shakespeare to Florence Nightingale and Gandhi
  • discover the Library’s architecture and public spaces to discover more about the inner workings of a national library

Visit slots last for one hour, must be booked in advance and are offered subject to availability of our spaces.
