Bubbling up from the vaults of the British Library, the hugely popular Tales of the Weird book series has been uncovering forgotten stories of supernatural forces and sinister goings on.

In this event to celebrate the series, our panel of experts and enthusiasts journey into Gothic, fantastic and uncanny fiction, where all is never as it seems. Featuring some of the finest writers of suspense and intrigue, such as Edgar Allen Poe, H. G. Wells, Mary Shelley, Vernon Lee and H.P. Lovecraft, we also explore neglected writers reissued in the series.

Expect Victorian chillers, mythological evils, killer plants, phantom lovers and a host of seasonal hauntings for gloomy winter nights. But most of all, expect the unexpected!

With guests including Reece Shearsmith and Tanya Kirk. Chaired by Dr Mathew Sweet.

If you’re attending in person, please arrive no later than 15 minutes before the start time of this event. We are committed to the safety of our event bookers. Find out how we are welcoming you to the Library safely.
