Meet the creator of the Google doodles

As creator of the daily ‘doodles’ on the Google home page, Matthew Cruickshank’s graphic and lettering art is perhaps the most-viewed of any designer on the planet. He talks about the daily delights of re-imagining the same six letters in conversation with Jemima Kiss, former head of technology at The Guardian and now a freelance journalist based in San Francisco.

Matthew Cruickshank studied graphic design, illustration and traditional hand drawn in England. After working for Disney and Warner Bros. in London he moved to San Francisco in 2012 to work on the Google Doodle. This position gave him the possibility to make short films, online games and animated illustrations for one of the most visible art spaces in the world. In his spare time he can be found sitting on streets painting and sketching everyday life him. You can see a lot of his work at his blog Ye Crooked Legge.
