Celebrating 10 years of extraordinary conversations on the BBC and at the British Library.

This event is being postponed until spring 2023, we apologise for any inconvenience caused and will be sharing the new date as soon as possible.

Capturing the nation in conversation, The Listening Project has now recorded thousands of people talking to each other about what is important to them in their lives, giving all of us the chance to hear their stories told their way. Fi Glover hosts an evening celebrating some of the most remarkable of these chats from across the last decade, with some special guests.

Bring your ears and open your minds… Blindfolds will be provided!

The Listening Project is an audio archive of conversations. People are invited to share an intimate conversation with a close friend or relative, to be recorded and broadcast by the BBC and curated and archived in full by the British Library.

Oral history recordings provide valuable first-hand testimony of the past. These one-to-one conversations, lasting up to an hour and taking a topic of the speaker’s choice, collectively form a picture of our lives and relationships today.

Fi Glover is a British journalist who presents The Listening Project for BBC Radio 4, the Fortunately podcast and My Perfect Country for BBC World Service. She co-wrote Did I Say That Out Loud with Jane Garvey, also her co-host on Fortunately, one of the BBC’s most successful podcasts. Glover worked at BBC Radio 5 Live for seven years before moving to BBC Radio 4 as the host of Broadcasting House, then launching Radio 4's Saturday Live, in March 2006. In 2010, Radio Times readers voted Glover the 9th Most Powerful Voice on Radio and in 2014 she was awarded a fellowship of the Radio Academy, ‘to recognise individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the industry and/or the Academy.’

If you’re attending in person, please arrive no later than 15 minutes before the start time of this event. We are committed to the safety of our event bookers. Find out how we are welcoming you to the Library safely.
