Join some of the most exciting writers from around the world on the eve of the 2016 Man Booker International Prize award

This rich afternoon of readings and conversation, hosted by BBC broadcaster Razia Iqbal, presents readings by some of the shortlisted writers and their translators. Settings range from war-torn Angola to Naples terrorised by the Camorra, from the mountains of Austria to the growing sprawl of Istanbul, and from metamorphosis in South Korea to allegorical transformation during the Great Famine in China.

For the first time this year, this prestigious prize will be awarded for a single work of fiction, translated into English and published in the UK. Its aim is to encourage more publishing and reading of quality works in translation, with the translator sharing the award. Both novels and collections of short stories are eligible.

Appearing on the day:

  • José Eduardo Agualusa and Daniel Hahn on A General Theory of Oblivion
  • Han Kang and Deborah Smith on The Vegetarian
  • Daniela Petracco (Elena Ferrante’s UK publisher) will read in Italian from The Story of the Lost Child and Morven Christie (currently starring in The A Word) will read in English
  • Ekin Oklap on A Strangeness in my Mind
  • Robert Seethaler and Charlotte Collins on A Whole Life
  • Carlos Rojas on The Four Books

A book stall and signing featuring the shortlisted titles will follow the event.
