    At travelling fairs and theatre shows, the public often enjoyed tumblers, acrobats and tightrope walkers. Polander, a famous acrobat from Poland, performed in London’s Sadler’s Wells theatre from 1780 to 1805. This print shows 30 of his ‘surprising performances’.
