Karl and Eleanor Marx display

Discover the links between the British Library and Karl Marx and his daughter Eleanor

Published date:

As part of the commemorations of the 200th anniversary of Karl Marx’s birth, our Treasures Gallery display will explore the role the British Museum Reading Room, a predecessor institution of the British Library, played in the life and work of Marx and his daughter Eleanor, a notable writer and political activist in her own right.

Highlights from the display include a first edition of the Communist Manifesto and the Reader Ticket that allowed Marx to research and write Das Kapital. Find out what else you can expect to see for a unique insight into the life and work of one of history’s most significant and controversial thinkers.

Our Karl and Eleanor Marx display is open until 5 August 2018.
