We are delighted to partner with Chevening to offer professional development fellowships for emerging global leaders. We are offering two fellowships for 2020/21: one focused on our Ukrainian Collections and one on exploring solutions to automate the transcription of historical Chinese texts.
These fellowships offer individuals the chance to spend 12 months based 'behind-the-scenes' at the British Library – the national library of the United Kingdom and a unique hub for research and cultural engagement.
Each fellowship takes the form of a specially-developed project that will support the strategic needs of the Library. Our fellowships help us to capitalise on the breadth and depth of our collection, enhance our knowledge and expertise, stimulate new research, and foster international collaborations.
Upon completion of their projects, our fellows join the highly regarded global network of Chevening alumni.
We have two fellowship opportunities for the period September 2020-September 2021:
- Ukrainian collections at the British Library: past, present, future (open to candidates from Ukraine)
- Automating the recognition of historical Chinese handwritten texts (open to candidates from Mainland China)
The application window is open until 5 November 2019. For an overview of each Fellowship and details about eligibility and how to apply, please visit our page on the Chevening website.
