Masterclass and competition

As part of our second fashion research competition in November 2018, designer Nabil Nayal took part in a research masterclass to share his experience of researching at the Library.

Nabil Nayal, a Syrian-born British womenswear designer, was a member of the judging panel for the 2018 competition (pictured above) and presented the award to the joint winners at an evening award ceremony.

The masterclass, British Library x Nabil Nayal, featured inputs from experts from across the Library and a show-and-tell of samples from the Library’s collections presented by finalists, highlighting their potential to inspire fashion research and design.

You can see a short film of highlights from the masterclass and the judging day below.

The collaboration between Nabil and the British Library showcases not only the Library's wealth of resources for design students but also the importance of archive research for the continued success of UK creative industries.
