We’re back

Readers in a Reading Room

After four months of closure, it felt wonderful to reopen our doors on 22 July, welcoming researchers back to four Reading Rooms in St Pancras and Boston Spa.

Published date:

Things look a little different; we’ve placed floor markers, rearranged furniture and planned one-way routes around the buildings to keep everyone safe. See what it’s been like for the first Readers through the door.

We’ve opened with limited capacity in the Reading Rooms and reduced days and hours of opening while we test our processes, and Readers will need to pre-book their desk space and order items in advance. Please bear with us if you aren’t able to book right away or if your collection item isn’t available; we will increase capacity as it is safe to do so.

New tickets are released every Thursday at 11.00, and you can select your Reading Room to book here.

In this first instance our public spaces, galleries, Members’ Room and Reader Registration aren’t open, so we can’t renew, replace or issue new Reader passes at the moment.

We’re working really hard to open more of our spaces and services as quickly and as safely as possible, and we’re always open online.
