HRH The Duke of Edinburgh

Prince Philip and the Queen at the British Library

The British Library is deeply saddened to hear of the death of the Duke of Edinburgh.

Published date:

Together with Her Majesty The Queen, the Duke officially opened the Library’s building at St Pancras in 1998, and over the years he visited a number of times, including the opening of our exhibitions on the history of British newspapers and our Royal Manuscripts exhibition in 2011.

The Duke also took a keen interest in the Library’s support for entrepreneurs and small businesses, visiting the Business & IP Centre at St Pancras in November 2013.

Flags at our sites in London and Yorkshire have been lowered as a mark of respect and we would like to offer our condolences to the Royal Family at this sad time.
