Kickstart is a government scheme that helps young people, disproportionately affected by COVID-19, into long-term work. The £2 billion Kickstart scheme was announced by the Chancellor in summer 2020 and has now been extended until March 2022.
We’re delighted to be an approved Kickstart employer and we’ve created a series of new roles at our St Pancras and Boston Spa sites to help you into the workplace. The government funded scheme provides young people on Universal Credit with a six-month work placement for 25 hours per week. And we will be topping up government payments so that all our kickstart trainees are paid the Real Living Wage. This is part of our commitment to being a Real Living Wage organisation.
The new placements will work across a variety of departments in the Library. There’ll be opportunities to suit all interests and career aspirations, from working on our world-class exhibitions to supporting our payroll department.
Kickstart trainees also receive a comprehensive employability training programme led by Camden or Leeds City Council. In addition, if you accept a placement with us you’ll benefit from training specific to your role and in key technology skills to strengthen your CV. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn about other departments in the Library and meet and learn from colleagues including our apprentices so you can consider your next steps.
For more information on the Kickstart scheme visit the government website. If you’re eligible and interested in our Kickstart placements, please talk to your local JobCentrePlus work coach or email firstname.lastname@example.org to enquire about our current opportunities.
