Course packs and reading lists

On Demand coursepacks and reading lists

Build quality resources for your students with material from On Demand and your own collections, licensed by publishers and the Copyright Licensing Agency

UK Higher Education Institutions can use content from the British Library in course packs and reading lists, licensed by the Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA). Give your students seamless access to content from the British Library through their own virtual learning environments.

You can now sign up for our new Enhanced Higher Education Supply Service (EHESS), created in partnership with the CLA. Find out how.

We’ve partnered with the CLA to make licensing content for use in Higher Education even easier and provide you with better quality and turnaround as standard. On Demand provides the content and the CLA provides the licence for a set number of users to access the content over a year. They also provide tools to help you track, manage and report on the usage of the content.

EHESS provides both print and born-digital content with:

  • Copyright fee and out-sourced scanning options
  • No digital rights management
  • High-quality scanning as standard
  • Optical Character Recognition (OCR)
  • 48-hour delivery guaranteed
The British Library can scan content that you hold in your collections for you. You don’t need to pay any further copyright fees to use the content in your course packs and reading lists. You can also order material from On Demand that you don’t hold. For this you pay a one-off copyright fee, which the CLA passes on to the publisher.

For further information and prices, see our frequently asked questions or visit the CLA website.
