Watercolour by Shaikh 'Abdullah (fl. 1818-1819) of two sketches of tombs near Tughluqabad in the outskirts of modern-day Delhi, dated March 1814. The image is inscribed on the front in ink: 'Antiquities. Delhi. Ancient Tomb near Tugluckabad. March 1814. Copd by Shaik Abdullah. 31st Augst 1819.' Tughluqabad is one of the old cities of Delhi and consists of the massive ruins of a palace, citadel and fort complex, built between 1321 and 1325, by Ghiyath-u'd-din Tughluq, the founder of the dynasty. The lower tomb is likely to be that of Ghiyath-u'd-din Tuqhluq himself, which that above is another smaller mausoleum that forms part of the same complex. The tomb of Ghiyath-u'd-din stands on a causeway to the south of the ramparts of Tughluqabad itself.
