Views of London No. 3. Entrance of Tottenham Court Road Turnpike Road with a view of St James

Engraver: Schutz
Medium: Aquatint, coloured
Date: 1798

IThis is a witty, caricatured view of London street life by Thomas Rowlandson. The turnpike by Tottenham Court Road was one of London's busiest. All kinds of amusing details are included: the fat clergyman who cannot squeeze through the fence, a couple kissing on the back of a stagecoach, a lady on horseback losing her bonnet and some buskers playing a violin.
