Pages 382-3

These pages come from the Canon, which contains the prayers of the solemn central part of the mass. They are part of a series of pages which have realistically depicted English birds and roundels describing the gifts and land grants given to Sherborne by successive kings from the Anglo-Saxon period onwards. These passages relate to Sherborne's Book of Charters (Cartulary) which also survives.

Birdsong: the song of the robin, which can be seen in the lower left-hand margin of page 25, can be heard here.

This version of Turning the Pages does not require the Shockwave plug-in. It foregoes the interactive animation that lets you 'virtually' turn pages and brings you the same high-quality images of our greatest books in standard web pages.
