Dr Kanya King CBE is an internationally renowned entrepreneur and diversity champion - CEO, founder, and the visionary behind MOBO and MOBOLISE.
Since its launch in 1996, Kanya has built MOBO into a globally respected brand, establishing itself as a champion of diversity, inclusion, and recognition for black and minority ethnic (BME) talent within music, culture, arts, fashion, and media. MOBO has provided an early platform for British and International artists and has become one of the most prestigious events on the international calendar.
Kanya’s drive has also seen her create the MOBO Trust, a talent development programme offering training and educational opportunities for young people. She sits on a range of boards, committees, and advisory groups, including the Creative Industries Council, Creative UK Council, Sky TV and the Arts & Media Honours Committee, representing the music and creative sector - advocating on its behalf.
In 1999 she was awarded an MBE for services to the music industry and a CBE for services to music and culture in the Queen’s 2018 birthday honours. She was honoured with Music Week’s highest honour, The Strat Award in 2021. Her accomplishments have also been recognised by several universities, including a visiting Professorship from London Metropolitan University and eight doctorates.
