How did you become involved in delivering events for the BIPC?

“I became involved in delivering events for the BIPC after partnering with Grow to help build their team. Alasdair Inglis was already a well-established partner with the BIPC and knew the problems that start-up and scale-ups companies had with hiring, retention and people development. He recommended me to the BIPC team as I have a very different approach to recruitment and HR than most other traditional recruiters. I am passionate about helping business owners become really good recruiters themselves. If you’re a business owner or co-founder and know how to hire well, it makes the recruitment process less stressful, potentially more enjoyable and an easier way to scale a company. It also reduces the incidence where HR intervention is needed.”

What’s the one BIPC resource you love to recommend to people?

“There are so many resources available to start-ups and business owners within the BIPC, from workshops (online and in-person) to one-to-ones around intellectual property (IP) to the National Network. I cannot pinpoint just one as it would depend what my mindset was on any given day!”

Your best piece of business advice?

“In 1946, Winston Churchill gave a speech in the US where he said; ‘Success is not final. Failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts’. For me, success is very personal. Whether it’s generating wealth, becoming independent on a job, having a growth mindset, or all of the above, only you can cultivate your idea of what it means to be successful. And then to have the tenacity to drive on when things are not going so well in business or in your personal life, or both, is the difference between hitting my success milestones or feeling bad that I’ve not!”

“Either walking my cocker spaniel or traveling to London and NYC for West End and Broadway theatre.”
