Olivia Majumdar graduated with a South Asian Studies BA from SOAS, University of London, where she focused on Urdu and Hindi literatures of the 19-20th centuries. She followed this with an English Literature MA by Research, investigating modern Hindi literature in translation, and a Film Programming and Curating MA, exploring South Asian film. From autumn 2022 she will be an MPhil/PhD candidate at the University of Exeter, researching the British novel in translation in colonial North India. Her research interests include the development of the Indian vernacular novel, Urdu-Hindi literary spheres, Anglophone-South Asian literary exchange through translation, and Urdu-Hindi cinema.
She joined the Library in 2019, cataloguing rare Bengali and Urdu books for the ‘Two Centuries of Indian Print’ project. Prior to this, she worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Cambridge Judge Business School.
